How to start a Gemini Deep Research report
- Go to gemini.google.com and sign in.
- In the prompt box, select Add files, then choose Deep Research.
- Optionally upload files that should be considered with your prompt.
- Open Sources and choose what Gemini may use.
- Write a specific research question, including the decision you need to make and the desired output.
- Submit the prompt. Gemini will propose a research plan.
- Read the plan before the research begins. Select Edit plan if an important comparison, country, date range, or source type is missing.
- Select Start research.

Choose the right sources
Google Search

Gmail and Google Drive

They are available only when the Google Workspace app is connected to Gemini and your account is permitted to use it. Add the country, budget, required features, excluded sources and reporting format when they affect the answer. If you need citations for every important claim, say so explicitly.
Review the research plan before running it
The plan is your best opportunity to prevent a weak report. Check whether Gemini intends to:
- compare the correct products, plans, countries or time periods;
- use primary sources rather than summaries where possible;
- investigate costs, limitations and counter-evidence;
- separate current facts from older background;
- produce the table, timeline or decision framework you need.
Edit the plan when it is missing a major question. Starting over after the report is complete usually takes longer.
How to verify a Gemini Deep Research report
Deep Research can gather many sources, but it does not make every sentence automatically correct. Before relying on the report:
- Open the citations supporting the most important claims.
- Confirm that each source actually says what the report claims.
- Check publication and update dates.
- Prefer official documentation for prices, limits, eligibility and policies.
- Look for numbers that may use different currencies, tax rules or measurement periods.
- Search for missing counter-evidence or regions excluded from the report.
Do not treat a long report as proof of accuracy. Citation quality and claim-to-source matching matter more than length.
How to export, share, or copy the report
- Open the completed research conversation.
- Open the report in the Canvas panel.
- Select Share & export.
- Choose Share Canvas, Export to Docs, or Copy contents.
After exporting to Docs, keep the source links and add your own verification notes. A shared Canvas or document may expose information taken from uploaded files or connected services, so review the report before sharing it outside your account or organization.
Why an old report may be missing
Google says past research reports are available from recent chats only when the Gemini Apps Keep Activity setting is on. If a report is missing, check the correct account and activity setting before assuming the research failed.

Deep Research is not available
