Claude subscription not showing after payment? Paid for Claude Pro or Max but still seeing a Free account? Do not buy the plan again yet. The most common causes are signing into a different Claude account, checking the wrong billing platform, or a payment that did not complete. This guide gives you a safe order for finding the subscription and proving where the payment belongs.
The fastest three checks
- Use the exact email and sign-in method used when you paid. “Continue with Google,” an emailed login link, and Apple Hide My Email can lead to different account identities.
- Find the receipt and identify who charged you: Anthropic on the web, Apple App Store, or Google Play.
- Open the matching account’s billing screen before paying again. A paid plan showing as Free usually means the account or payment status is different from the one you are viewing.
What “subscription not showing” usually means
Anthropic’s paid-plan billing guidance points to two primary explanations when a paid account appears free: you logged in with another email, or the payment method failed and the account was downgraded. A successful card charge, Apple receipt, or Google Play receipt is evidence of a transaction, but it does not by itself prove that the current Claude session is the same account that owns the subscription.
Keep this problem separate from a usage-limit warning. If Claude shows your Pro or Max plan but blocks a conversation, you may have reached a five-hour or weekly limit; see our Claude 5-hour limit guide. If the plan is visible but you are asked to pay for overflow, see Claude usage credits and auto-reload. This article is about the paid entitlement itself not appearing.
First, identify where you subscribed
The platform that processed the subscription controls the receipt, renewal, payment method, cancellation, and often the first troubleshooting step. Use the route that matches your purchase:
| Where you paid | What to check | Who handles billing |
|---|---|---|
| Claude web or Claude Desktop | Claude → Settings → Billing; plan status, payment method, and Invoices | Anthropic |
| Claude for iOS | Apple ID’s subscriptions and the Apple receipt; then sign into the same Claude account on the web | Apple App Store for payment and renewal |
| Claude for Android | Google Play subscriptions and the Google receipt; then sign into the same Claude account on the web | Google Play for payment and renewal |
Do not assume that opening Claude in a browser moves an App Store subscription to a new account. The web view is useful for checking the account and plan, while Apple or Google remains the billing authority for a mobile purchase.
Step 1: sign into the account that owns the plan
Claude supports signing in with Google or with an emailed secure link. Those routes can be attached to different accounts if you used another email address when you subscribed. Sign out, then make a short list of every address you may have used and test them one at a time.
- Google login: choose “Continue with Google” and select the same Google account used at checkout.
- Email login: choose “Continue with email” and open the secure link on the same device where you requested it when possible.
- Apple Hide My Email: the account may use an
@privaterelay.appleid.comaddress rather than your normal email. In the iOS app, check the account email under Settings. - Team or Enterprise: if the same email has more than one workspace, click your initials and switch to the intended account. An individual Free view can be different from a paid organization account.
Do not create a new Claude account to “fix” a missing plan. That can make the ownership trail harder to follow and will not move a payment.
Step 2: verify the payment before changing anything
Find the most recent receipt, then compare its date, amount, currency, and account identifier with the account you are viewing. For a web subscription, open Settings → Billing and review payment status, the current payment method, and the Invoices section. Anthropic also emails invoices; searching for “Your receipt from Anthropic” can locate a web purchase.
For iOS or Android, check the Apple or Google account that actually made the purchase. If the store has no active subscription or the receipt shows a different store account, Claude cannot display that entitlement in the account you are testing. If the receipt is present but Claude remains Free, keep the order or transaction ID for support and do not purchase a second plan.
Step 3: allow for payment or account synchronization
- Close Claude on the device where the plan looks Free.
- Sign out and sign back in using the original email or Google/Apple identity.
- On a mobile purchase, open Claude on the web as well and check the same account’s plan and Billing/Usage pages.
- Wait for a pending payment to settle instead of repeatedly tapping purchase.
- Check whether your card, Apple account, or Google Play payment was declined, reversed, or refunded.
Clearing a browser cache can fix a stale display, but it cannot repair a failed payment or attach a receipt to the wrong account. Treat cache clearing as a later display check, not the first explanation.
If the web account shows Free after a successful charge
Return to the two evidence paths: account identity and payment status. Try alternative emails, confirm the active account in the lower-left menu, and inspect Settings → Billing. If the payment failed, update the payment method there; if the payment succeeded but the entitlement is missing, stop making changes that could create a second charge and contact support.
A paid plan can also look missing when you are viewing a different workspace, a newly created account, or an account signed in with a different Apple relay address. The visible plan name, billing email, invoice, and store receipt should all point to the same ownership trail.
When to contact Anthropic, Apple, or Google
Use the support channel that matches the unresolved part of the problem:
- Anthropic support: the receipt is valid but the Claude account still shows Free, the plan is attached to the wrong account, or you cannot access the account that received the payment. From Claude, open your initials/name → Get help; if you cannot log in, use the Help Center messenger and choose the login or subscription route.
- Apple Support: the charge, renewal, cancellation, or refund is an App Store transaction. Claude cannot reverse an Apple charge that Anthropic did not process.
- Google Support: the charge or subscription is a Google Play transaction and the Play billing record is the part that is missing or incorrect.
Send support the account email or Apple relay address, plan name, purchase platform, receipt or transaction ID, payment date, currency, the exact plan shown in Claude, and screenshots with card numbers or security codes hidden. Never send a password, one-time login code, or full payment-card number.
Refunds and duplicate charges
Do not cancel or repurchase while you are still trying to locate the original entitlement. For a web payment, Anthropic’s refund flow starts from Claude’s Help menu and checks eligibility. Apple payments are handled by Apple; Google Play payments follow the store’s refund process and may require Google or Anthropic depending on the transaction. Keep every receipt and note whether the subscription is active, canceled, pending, or refunded.
Common questions
I paid on iPhone. Why does the web version show Free?
Usually the browser is signed into a different Claude account or Apple relay address. Sign into the web app with the same account shown in the iOS app, then compare the store receipt and plan status.
I see Pro, but my messages are blocked. Is the subscription missing?
No. The plan can be active while a five-hour or weekly usage meter is exhausted. Check Settings → Usage and use the limit guide before changing billing.
Should I buy the plan again?
Normally no. First identify the charged platform, account email, and payment status. A second purchase can create two active subscriptions without fixing the first account.
Can I use the same subscription on multiple devices?
Yes, use the same Claude account and sign-in identity. Switching to another email or Apple relay address can make the plan appear to disappear.
