Grok subscription not showing after payment? Start by checking the account that was charged and the platform that processed the purchase. A SuperGrok plan bought on grok.com, an Apple or Google Play subscription, and X Premium can look similar in the product while being managed by different systems.
Quick diagnosis: find the billing route first
| Where you subscribed | Where to check or manage it |
|---|---|
| grok.com | Open Grok billing while signed in; change plan, payment, or cancellation there. |
| Apple App Store | Apple Subscriptions; Apple handles transactions and refunds. |
| Google Play | Google Play handles cancellation; xAI handles eligible refund requests. |
| X Premium or Premium+ | X manages the subscription and the related refund process. |
This first check prevents the most expensive mistake: buying a second plan before finding the original receipt. Search the receipt, subscription history, or bank statement for the merchant and purchase date, then use that same route to verify the entitlement.
1. Confirm the exact Grok account used at checkout
xAI says a subscription is tied to the account used to buy it. If a plan appears on the web but not in the mobile app, or the app shows an “activate” or “upgrade” prompt, the most common cause is a different sign-in method—not a second charge.
- Compare the account shown in Grok Settings on every device.
- Check whether you used X sign-in, Google, Apple, or an email-based Grok login.
- Sign out once, then sign back in with the original method used at checkout.
- If you used Apple Hide My Email, sign in with the original Apple login; entering the private-relay address through another provider may not identify the subscription.
- Do not create a second purchase while the first account is still unverified.
2. Separate SuperGrok from X Premium
SuperGrok is xAI’s consumer plan for grok.com and the Grok apps. X Premium and Premium+ are X subscriptions that can include Grok benefits. The names and features may overlap, but the billing owner does not: a missing SuperGrok plan belongs in the xAI/Grok billing flow, while an X Premium charge or refund belongs with X.
Linking an X sign-in to the xAI account can help xAI retrieve the relevant X subscription status, but it does not move an X invoice into the Grok billing portal. Keep the two receipts separate when contacting support.
3. If the plan is active but the app still says “upgrade”
Use the platform’s own subscription list as the second source of truth. On iOS, confirm the purchase under Apple Subscriptions; on Android, confirm it under Google Play Subscriptions. Then update the Grok app, log out and back in, restart the app, and clear its cache where the platform allows it. xAI lists these steps for activation mismatches.
If the account and store receipt agree but the entitlement is still missing, capture the exact account identifier, platform, receipt number, and app version before contacting support. Avoid uninstalling repeatedly or paying again; those actions do not repair an account mismatch.
4. If the web billing button will not open
Open the billing page in a private window or another up-to-date browser while already signed in. Ad blockers, privacy tools, and other extensions can prevent the billing portal from opening. Temporarily allow grok.com, then retry once. A blocked portal is a browser problem; it is not evidence that the paid plan vanished.
If the portal still fails, record the error and use the support route rather than repeatedly clicking checkout. Never share a password, verification code, full card number, or session cookie.
5. Check usage before assuming the subscription disappeared
A paid badge can remain visible while paid features are paused because the included allowance has been used. xAI’s current system uses one shared weekly usage pool across Grok products for paid users. In Grok, open Settings → Usage to see the percentage used, product breakdown, weekly reset time, and any Extra Usage Credits balance.
Reaching the weekly pool is different from losing the subscription. Paid features can pause until reset, while the free limits for Chat and Voice may remain available. If you need uninterrupted use, xAI lists Extra Usage Credits, a higher plan, and Auto Top Up as separate options. Compare the usage screen before changing billing.
6. Prevent duplicate charges and request the right refund
- Find the original receipt and identify the merchant.
- Check Grok web billing, Apple Subscriptions, Google Play Subscriptions, and the X subscription page as applicable.
- Cancel an unintended plan through the platform that charged it.
- For a web or Google Play refund, use xAI’s refund route; for an App Store purchase, request the refund from Apple; for X Premium, contact X.
- Keep both receipts if two platforms really charged you and explain the timeline to support.
7. Send support a reproducible case
Include the account identifier, sign-in method, purchase platform, receipt or invoice number, purchase date, charged amount, plan name, device and operating system, browser or app version, and a screenshot of the billing or usage screen. Redact payment details that are not needed. This gives support enough information to distinguish an account mismatch, store entitlement delay, blocked billing portal, usage limit, or duplicate charge.
