SuperGrok vs X Premium+: Features, Limits, Billing, and Best Fit

SuperGrok and X Premium+ subscription paths linked to one Grok account

Compared from official xAI and X documentation · July 30, 2026

SuperGrok vs X Premium+ is not simply the same Grok subscription sold in two places. SuperGrok is the direct, AI-first plan for grok.com and the Grok apps. X Premium+ is an X membership that combines higher Grok limits with X benefits such as an eligible blue checkmark, an almost ad-free experience, stronger reply prioritization, Radar Search, Articles, and X Pro. The better choice depends on whether you are paying mainly for Grok or for X as a platform.

Quick answer

  • Choose SuperGrok if Grok is the product you actually want and you do not need premium X features.
  • Choose X Premium+ if you use X heavily enough to value its platform benefits as well as higher Grok access.
  • Do not buy both by default. First connect the correct X account to your xAI account and check whether your expected benefits appear.
  • Compare at checkout. xAI currently lists SuperGrok at $30 per month, while X lists U.S. web pricing for Premium+ at $40 per month or $395 per year. Regional, tax, app-store, and promotional pricing can differ.

SuperGrok vs X Premium+: side-by-side

Question SuperGrok X Premium+
What are you buying? A direct xAI subscription focused on Grok An X subscription with premium X features and higher Grok limits
Current listed U.S. web price $30 per month $40 per month or $395 per year
Primary place to subscribe grok.com or the Grok mobile app x.com or the X mobile app
Main value Frontier Grok models and higher limits across Grok features Premium X experience plus higher Grok access
X blue checkmark No Included after the X account passes eligibility review
X advertising No X advertising benefit Ad-free across most of X, although occasional sponsored content may appear
X creator and publishing features No Creator eligibility features, Articles, reply prioritization, Media Studio, and more
X Pro and Radar Search No Included according to X’s current plan description
Billing support xAI, Apple, or Google, depending on purchase platform X, Apple, or Google, depending on purchase platform
Account dependency The xAI login used to purchase The subscribed X account and the xAI account linked to it

This comparison deliberately says “higher Grok limits” for X Premium+ instead of assigning a fixed message count. X and xAI do not publish a durable, universal number for every Grok activity, and current Grok usage can depend on the feature and compute required. A hard number copied from an older article can become wrong quickly.

What SuperGrok includes

xAI’s current pricing page positions SuperGrok as its direct individual upgrade. The listed plan includes access to the current frontier Grok model, higher rate limits across features, Expert, connectors, and image and video generation. It works across the Grok web, iOS, and Android apps when you sign in with the account that owns the subscription.

Paid Grok plans now use a shared weekly allowance across products such as Chat, Imagine, Voice, and Build. A lightweight chat and a compute-heavy video do not necessarily consume the same percentage. You can see the current percentage, product breakdown, and reset time in Settings → Usage. Our detailed guide explains how Grok’s weekly usage pool and reset work.

SuperGrok is therefore the cleaner purchase when your decision can be stated as: “I want more Grok.” You are not paying for a checkmark, X publishing tools, or a different X feed experience.

What X Premium+ adds

X Premium+ is the highest standard consumer tier of X Premium. It includes the features of the lower tiers and adds the strongest reply prioritization, higher Grok limits, Radar Search, Articles, and X Pro. X also describes Premium+ as ad-free across most areas of the platform, while warning that subscribers may occasionally encounter sponsored content.

Other benefits inherited from Premium include an eligible blue checkmark after review, longer posts and video uploads, editing, Media Studio, ID verification, and access to apply for creator revenue sharing and creator subscriptions. Eligibility requirements still apply; paying does not guarantee acceptance into monetization programs.

These features explain the higher price. The extra $10 per month over the currently listed SuperGrok price is potentially reasonable for an active X publisher, researcher, community manager, trader using Radar, or creator who wants the platform benefits. It is mostly wasted if you rarely open X.

The most important difference: account ownership

A direct SuperGrok purchase belongs to the xAI account used at checkout. X Premium+ belongs to the X account that subscribed. For X-based Grok benefits to appear correctly on grok.com or in the Grok app, the correct X account must be connected to the correct xAI account.

xAI’s current instructions are:

  1. Open grok.com and sign in to the xAI account you intend to use.
  2. Go to Settings → Account.
  3. Select Connect your X Account.
  4. At the X sign-in screen, verify the handle carefully before authorizing.
  5. Return to Grok and confirm that the subscription and usage page show the expected status.

You can review sign-in methods at accounts.x.ai. This step matters when you have several email addresses, used Sign in with Apple, or operate more than one X profile. xAI specifically notes that X Premium+ access applies only to the account linked with the subscribed X account.

What if Premium+ is active but Grok still asks you to upgrade?

Do not purchase SuperGrok immediately. First diagnose the identity mismatch:

  1. Confirm Premium+ is active inside the subscribed X account.
  2. Confirm the same X account is connected under Grok’s account settings.
  3. Check whether you entered Grok with email, Google, Apple, or X and accidentally created a second xAI account.
  4. If you used Apple’s Hide My Email, sign in with Apple rather than manually entering the private relay address.
  5. Update the Grok app, then sign out and back in. On the web, try a private window if a billing page is blocked by an extension.

For a more complete recovery sequence, see our guide to fixing a Grok subscription that is active but not showing. If both platforms really charged you, collect both receipts before contacting support; the correct support team depends on where each transaction occurred.

Billing, cancellation, and refunds are handled differently

Where you subscribed Where to manage or cancel Who handles a refund request
SuperGrok on grok.com grok.com → Settings → Billing xAI
SuperGrok on iOS Apple subscriptions Apple
SuperGrok on Android Google Play subscriptions xAI currently directs refund requests to its form
X Premium+ on x.com X → Premium settings X, where required by law
X Premium+ on iOS or Android The store used for purchase Follow X and the relevant app store’s current instructions

X states that Premium subscriptions are generally non-refundable unless required by law and advises cancelling at least 24 hours before auto-renewal. SuperGrok refund routing differs by purchase platform. This is why a receipt is more useful than a screenshot of an upgrade screen: it identifies the merchant and transaction channel.

Also remember that Grok consumer subscriptions and xAI API billing are separate. Neither SuperGrok nor X Premium+ should be treated as prepaid API credit.

How Grok limits affect the decision

The word “unlimited” should not drive this purchase. xAI describes paid usage as a weekly allowance, and X describes Premium+ as providing higher Grok limits. Neither description promises that every workflow has no cap.

The weekly pool is compute-sensitive. A long Build task or high-quality video can move the percentage faster than ordinary chat. When included usage is exhausted, paid features pause until reset, but xAI currently offers Extra Usage Credits and Auto Top Up on the web. Credits are used after the included pool, expire one year after purchase unless stated otherwise, and can cost more per action than included plan usage. Read our Grok Extra Usage Credits guide before enabling automatic charges.

The practical comparison is not “which plan has an internet rumor claiming more messages?” It is:

  • Does your account’s current checkout and usage screen show the level you need?
  • Do you perform mostly lightweight chat or expensive video and coding work?
  • Would X features justify the price even if Grok limits changed next month?
  • Would you rather upgrade a plan or pay occasionally after reaching the weekly pool?

Which plan is better for you?

Your situation Better starting choice Why
You mainly use grok.com for chat, research, files, images, or video SuperGrok Direct AI-focused plan at the lower current U.S. web monthly price
You publish or work on X every day X Premium+ The X platform benefits may justify the price difference
You want a blue checkmark, X Pro, Radar, or the strongest reply priority X Premium+ These are X benefits, not SuperGrok benefits
You rarely use X SuperGrok Avoid paying for benefits you will not use
You already pay for Premium+ Link accounts before buying anything else You may only have an account-recognition problem
You need heavy, uninterrupted Grok workloads Compare all current Grok tiers at checkout SuperGrok Heavy or another current tier may fit better than either simple answer
You only use Grok occasionally Stay free first Measure real usage before committing to a subscription

A five-minute buying checklist

  1. Write down the real need. Separate Grok tasks from X features.
  2. Check your region’s web checkout. App-store prices and taxes may be higher.
  3. Use one identity. Decide which xAI login and X handle should own the benefits.
  4. Review the cancellation route. Know whether xAI, X, Apple, or Google will control the subscription.
  5. Test for one billing cycle. Watch Settings → Usage instead of estimating from message count.

Verdict

SuperGrok is the better default for a Grok-first buyer. It is currently cheaper on the U.S. web and its value is concentrated on the AI product.

X Premium+ is the better bundle for an X-first user. Its higher price can make sense if the checkmark, ad reduction, creator and publishing tools, reply priority, Radar, and X Pro are useful independently of Grok.

The account link is the trap to avoid. If you already subscribe to Premium+, connect that exact X account to the xAI account you use on Grok before buying a second plan. And because features, models, prices, and limits change, treat the live checkout and usage screens as the final authority.
